Elaine Rose Briese, age 94, of Ripon, WI, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at Markesan Resident Home in Markesan, formerly of Russell Manor in Ripon.
Elaine was born August 11, 1917, in Fairwater, the daughter of Reynold and Viola (Michael) Briese. She graduated from Ripon High School in 1935. Elaine attended Beauty School and in 1937, she began working at Belle Pickard’s Beauty Shop at 508 Watson St. in Ripon. Elaine lived in Miss Pickard’s home and at one time had her own yarn shop in the same building. She was the last beautician to work for Miss Pickard.
In 1965, after Miss Pickard’s was closed, Elaine had her own business and home built on the corner of Ransom and Howard Street in Ripon. Because she needed more room for her beauty shop and more parking space, she sold this building and in the 1970’s, she had a new building built on the corner of Blackburn and Scott Street in Ripon. This beauty shop housed her beauty shop, gift shop, office space for rent and living quarters on the second floor.
Every spring and summer Elaine was busy tending to her many flowers she planted behind her shop on Scott Street so her neighbors and everyone passing by could enjoy the beauty. Elaine loved to travel to many interesting places. In later years, she enjoyed trips to see great shows and fine entertainment at The Fireside, Oshkosh Opera House and other winner theatres in Wisconsin. Elaine was a lifetime member of the Fairwater Historical Society. She will be dearly missed by her nieces, nephews, sister-in-law and many friends.
Survivors include her nieces, Bonnie Turney of Ripon, WI, Mary Ellen Biebel of Princeton, NJ and Barbie (Todd) Splittgaber of Ripon, WI; nephews, Bobby (Tila) Briese of Mequon, WI and Bert (Amy) Briese of Ripon, WI; great nieces, Marcie Turney of Philadelphia, PA, Sara Voegtline of Australia, Amber Briese of Ripon, WI, Marina Baumann of Mequon, WI and Kallin Rose Splittgaber of Ripon, WI; great nephews, Evan Turney of Philadelphia, PA, Mike Durant of Oshkosh, WI, Matthew Biebel of Columbia, MO, Adam Splittgaber of Madison, WI, Tyler Briese of Ripon, WI, Cody Splittgaber of Ripon, WI and Ethan Baumann of Mequon, WI and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Briese of Ripon. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Blaine “Bud” Briese, nephew, Lynn Durant; brother-in-law, Marvin Durant and sister, Betty Durant on August 20, 2011.
Visitation for Elaine Briese will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011, from 4 – 5:30 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr. Ripon, WI 54971.
A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at 5:30 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Inurnment will take place in Fairwater Cemetery in the Village of Fairwater. Memorials may be given to Fairwater Historical Society, P.O. Box 151 Fairwater, WI 53931 or Ripon Historical Society, 508 Watson St. P.O. Box 274 Ripon, WI 54971.
