Eleanor Mason

Eleanor J. Mason, age 73, of Ripon, WI died March 20, 1998, at Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee.

She was born October 22, 1924, in Montezuma, Iowa, a daughter of Sid and Blanche Weber Wheeler. She was educated in the Montezuma Schools, attended the college of Northern Iowa, and moved to Ripon in 1951. On November 21, 194, she married William J. Mason. Together they ran Vogue Cleaners in Ripon. Ellie was an active member of Immanuel United Methodist Church. She was a member of Church Women United, the Priscilla Circle of the church, the church choir, and was still teaching Sunday School. In addition, she served as a volunteer for the women’s sewing group at Ripon Medical Center, was a volunteer at Parkview Nursing Home, Hospice and the Ripon School District. She was a member and past president of the Ripon Women’s Club. She has been a member of numerous bridge groups throughout the city. For the past several years, she has worked at Diedrich Jewelry and has tried diligently to keep Bob Mathia on the straight and narrow.

Survivors include I son, John (Mary Cyrier) Mason of Mequon, WI and I daughter, Kathleen Barwatt of Houston, Texas; 3 grandchildren~ Kale Mason and Will and Kellly Barwatt; 1 stepdaughter, Marilyn (Bobby) Rotter of Milwaukee; 3 step-granddaughters, Susan Katz, Jacklyn Joda, and Renee Hower; 6 step-great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Edna Womeldorff of Tallahassee, Florida, Alice (Al) Keen of De Witt, Iowa, and Irene (Edgar) McFerren of Fond du Lac, and 2 brothers, Allen (Pauline) Wheeler and Frank (Dorothy) Wheeler, both of Montezuma, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, William on June 29, 1988, 1 sister, Bernice Alexander and 1 brother, Glenn Wheeler.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 28, 1998, at 3:00 PM at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon with The Reverend David Busker officiating. lnurnment will follow in Garden of the Cross Cemetery, Ripon. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, March 27, 1998, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, and on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the hour of the services at the church. A Memorial has been established.

It may be noted that Ellie’s longtime bridge partner, Margaret Johnson passed away February 21, 1998. We can all assume that Ellie would still be with us except for one important fact, Margaret took the cards.
