Eleanor Mcdonough

March 7, 1912 — November 17, 1989

Eleanor G. McDonough, age 77, passed away on November 17, 1989.

She was born in North Chicago, IL, daughter of Edward and Lillian Vlack, one of three children, Edward, deceased, and sister Carol, presently living in Waukegan, IL.

She attended North Chicago schools and graduated from Waukegan Township High School. Eleanor attended the National School of Education (Northwestern University), and later was employed in social work in Chicago and later at the Red Cross at Great Lakes Naval Training Station in North Chicago.

Eleanor subsequently married her high school classmate, Marshall McDonough, whose work with a major corporation brought moves in residence from Waukegan to New York, New Jersey, and Westport Connecticut. In Westport, after courses at the University of Connecticut, Eleanor had a successful career as a real estate broker covering the area in Fairfield County of Westport, Weston, Wilton, and Fairfield. She was a member of the Fairfield County Board of Realtors.

Upon completion of their retirement home in Green Lake, she became an active member of the Ripon Memorial Hospital volunteers, and subsequently a member of the Board of Directors of the hospital for two terms. Eleanor’s close association with the hospital, its employees, and the people served by Ripon Memorial was truly a gratifying period in her life.
Eleanor was a longtime member of the Dartford Club of Green Lake.
She is survived by her husband, Marshall, and daughters, Martha of London, England, and Lee, currently working at the UW-Platville. Also surviving her are her three grandchildren: Kathy, Sarah, and Scott, and four great-grandchildren, all of California.

A memorial fund has been established at the Ripon Memorial Hospital in Eleanor’s name. This is in lieu of flowers.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at The Federated Church of Green Lake, 489 Scott Street, on Tuesday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m.
