Elgene I. Disterhaft, age 72, of Willowbrooks Apts, Ripon, died Tuesday morning, September 23, 2003, at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah.
She was born June 21, 1931, in Ripon, a daughter to Everett and Ethyl (Hess) Hessler. She was a graduate of Ripon High School. Elgene received a degree in child care from Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac, and taught Advocap pre-school and head start. On September 28, 1949, she married Daniel Disterhaft at St Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Ripon. Elgene had lived in Ripon all her life, and was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, TOPS, and Grandmother Association (Advocap grandparent program.)
Survivors include her children, Pamela Sabel of Waukesha and Mark Disterhaft and fiance DeAnna Berglund of Ripon; daughter-in-law, Pam Disterhaft of Oshkosh; 4 grandchildren, Sara, David and Kyle Disterhaft, and Zachary Sabel; many nieces and nephews; 1 sister, Loraine Hasenheyer; and brother-in-law, Roy Hasenheyer. She was preceded in death by parents; son, Terry Disterhaft; sister, Elizabeth Simpson; and special friend, Russ Oppor.
Funeral service will be Monday, September 29, 2003, at 12 noon at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon with Rev. David A. Busker officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at church. Inurnment will be in Green Lake Center Cemetery, Town of Green Lake. A memorial has been established in her name.
