Elizabeth Nitz

July 8, 1919 — December 2, 1997

Elizabeth V. Nitz, age 78, of Ripon, went with the angels to her Eternal Home on December 2, 1997, at the Berlin Memorial Hospital.

She was born on July 8, 1919, in Berlin, the first daughter to Frank and Anna Disterhaft. She was schooled in the Berlin and Neshkoro School Districts. In 1944, Elizabeth married Walter Nitz and they resided in the Markesan and Center House areas. Elizabeth worked several summers at Del Monte Canning Company and at Fabriko Inc. in Green Lake for 26 years as a stitcher, retiring in
1984. She was a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon.

Her home in the rural Ripon and Green Lake area was a menagerie of animals. She raised ducks, chickens and rabbits. Her dogs guarded the house and the birds found a sanctuary on her property. Her home was her little chunk of “Heaven on Earth.” She took special joy in feeding wild birds and building homes for them. She was a member of the Blue Bird Society and definitely increased their population around Ripon. Elizabeth also raised pet birds, canaries, finchs, parakeets and quakers. She was a member of the Wisconsin Cage Bird Club and an honorary member of the Badger Canary and Finch Club. Elizabeth was an avid gardener growing many of her own vegetables and always sharing the abundance with family, neighbors and friends. Flowers graced her landscape and windowsills

Elizabeth is survived by I son and daughter-in-law, David (Ellen) Nitz of Ripon; 4 daughters and 3 sons-in-law, Evon (Dan) Van Ornum of Oshkosh, Carol (Milt) Otto of Green Lake, Linda (Butch) Dahlke of Ripon and Shirley Weise of Portage; 16 grandchildren, Jason, Danielle & Nicole, Bob, Terry, Peggy & Lisa, Brenda, Sherry and Tracy, B.J. and Vicky, and Howard, Doug, Jen & Bryan; 2 step-grandchildren, Kim & Nicole; and 22 great-grandchildren. Liz is further survived by 2 brothers, Hubert (Delma) Disterhaft and Tony (Ellenor) Disterhaft, all of Princeton; 2 sisters, Theresa (Carl) Chappa of Berlin and Josephine (Len) Waters; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, I sister, Leona Yagler and I brother-in-law, Joe Yagler.

Visitation for Elizabeth Veronica Nitz on Thursday from 4 until 7 PM, with a special family
prayer at 7 PM at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon. Funeral service at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon at 9 AM on Friday, December 5, 1997 with the Rev. James D. Mohr officiating. Burial in Dayton Cemetery, Town of Princeton.

Elizabeth loved and cared for her family. We were never without her special care and guidance. She was a very generous, caring, gentle person who shared with all she knew. Liz touched so many lives and will be missed by many. In her wisdom she left her family with so many happy memories, and a unique afghan designed and crocheted with love in every stitch. Her plan was for each of us to find comfort and warmth with her passing. A treasure for each of us from a “Treasure of a Mom”, God’s greatest Blessing. Rest in peace. Your Job is complete.
