Elonzo Lon Frederick Nichols, 66, of Ripon, died May 7, 1994, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born on July 7, 1927, in Milwaukee, a son to George DeWitt and Helen (Maier) Nichols. He attended school in Milwaukee and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947. On September 2, 1950, he married Dolores Holtz and they have resided in Ripon the last 18 years. Elonzo was head fieldsman for the Larsen Cannery in Fairwater. He was a member of the Fairwater Lions Club and had been past president, treasurer, and song leader. In 1922, Elonzo received the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services.
In Addition to his wife, Dolores, he is survived by three sons, Allan (Fran) Nichols of Baltimore, MD, Randy Nichols of Malvern, PA, and Mike (Nancy) Nichols of Ripon; one grandson, Justin Nichols of Ripon; one great-granddaughter, Amanda Blood of Baltimore. He is further survived by one brother, Robert Nichols of MI; three sisters, Elsie Czehno of Sun Prairie, Pat Cassel of FL, and Alice Olsen of CA; one sister-in-law, Virginia Holtz of Middleton; one brother-in-law, Robert (Lon) Holtz of Delaware; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A Memorial Service for Elonzo Nichols will be held at 5 pm on Friday, May 20, 1994, at the Ripon Assembly of God Church with the Reverend Donald Deike officiating. Immediately following the service, the family will greet friends and enjoy a time of fellowship in Lons memory at the Fairwater Civic Center. Memorials to the Fairwater Lions Club or Hospice Hope.
