Elsbeth “Beth” Holdorf, age 84, of Ripon, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Fountain View Care Center in Ripon, after a short battle with cancer.
Beth was born on January 16, 1924 at home in the Township of Honey Creek, Sauk County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Slotty) Balfanz. She was baptized on February 10, 1924 and Confirmed on May 30, 1937. In 1941 she graduated from Prairie du Sac High School with honors, and attended Felt & Tarrant Business School in Chicago. She than worked for Wilson Sporting Goods in Chicago. After the start of WWII, she returned home and worked for Hercules Powder Co. at Badger Ordnance plant near Baraboo. On April 21, 1946 she married George Holdorf at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Leland, WI. They lived in Berlin for 5 years and then moved to Ripon. Beth also worked in the office at Ripon Foods and then helped George as Speed Queen distributors. She was an active member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon and belonged to the Ester Circle, the quilting group, and sewed over 700 quilt tops at home.
Survivors include her two sons, John (Diane) Holdorf of Oshkosh, and Timothy (Penny) Holdorf of Green Lake; four grandchildren, Chad (Melanie) Holdorf of Green Lake, Dr. Amy Holdorf of Toronto, Ontario, Beth (Jeff) Junemann of Vesper, and Eric (Audra) Holdorf of Warren, MI; two great-grandchildren, Garrett & Carson Junemann; one sister, Ruby Pickar of Sauk City, one brother, Ervin (Bernice) Balfanz of North Freedom, one sister-in-law, Virginia Holdorf; four nieces and ten nephews. Beth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George on October 16, 1977; three brothers-in-law, Clarence Pickar, Edward and Roland Holdorf.
Visitation for Elsbeth Holdorf will be held from 9-11:00 am on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon.
Funeral Service for Elsbeth Holdorf will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon with Pastor Maurice Schaus officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of the Cross Cemetery, Ripon. A memorial has been established.
