Elsie Peschke

Elsie Johanna (Retzlaff) Peschke, age 87, formerly of rural Ripon, died Tuesday evening, September 2, 2003, at the Markesan Resident Home where she has resided since October 16, 2000.

She was born October 16, 1915, in rural Pickett, the daughter Otto and Emma (Gehrke) Retzlaff, Sr. Elsie attended Outlet School and graduated from Ripon High School. On September 27, 1939, she married Gordon Peschke, and they lived most of their married life on Co. Trunk E, Town of Metomen. Elsie was a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon, Altar Guild, Women’s Guild and taught Sunday School. She was former chairman of the Married Couples Club, and member of Seward Homemakers, Hoe & Hope Garden Club, and the Friendship Club. Elsie was well known for her cooking, especially pies, and also had an egg route in the City of Ripon.

Survivors include 2 sons, Karl (Anne) Peschke of Lexington, KY and Ron (Susie) Peschke of Fairwater; grandchildren, Mark (Margaret) Peschke of Glenview, IL, Kyle Peschke of Black Mountain, NC, Ryan Peschke of Lawrence, KS, Kristin Peschke of St. Louis Park, MN and Megan Peschke of Fairwater; great-grandchild, Francesca Peschke of Glenview, IL; brother-in-law, Gilbert Van Kirk of Ripon; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Gordon Peschke on November 2, 2002, 7 brothers, Alfred, Arthur, Otto, Henry, Harry, Fred and twin brother Wilbert Jr; 6 sisters, Martha Kunst, Alma Stark, Erna Van Kirk, Nora Schwandt, and Emma and Frieda who died in infancy; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Evora and Donn Buchholz.

Funeral service for Elsie Peschke will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2003, at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ with Rev. Mark R. West officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, and again on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Fairwater Cemetery. Memorials in her name may be given to Our Saviour’s UCC.
