Erlyn Liptow

Erlyn Lauren Liptow, known as “Shorty”, age 71, of Ripon, WI, died Tuesday, December 2, 1998, at Ripon Medical Center after a long illness.

He was born February 18, 1927, in Ripon, a son of the late Elmer and Ida (Quast) Liptow. He was a graduate of Ripon High School. “Shorty” was a truck driver for Nellis Limestone Quarry prior to serving in the Navy from July 1947 – April 1950, and the Army from October 1950 – October 1952. In 1952, he married the former Betty Jean Price and they made their home in Ripon where he worked for Speed Queen. “Shorty” was best known for being the bartender at the old Davis Hotel and loved music and played in a local band. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Ripon.

“Shorty” is survived by his wife, Betty J. Liptow of Ripon; two sons, Randy Liptow of Phoenix, AZ and his fiancée, Debbie Bitters and Roger (Sherry) Liptow of Fairwater; two brothers, Lloyd Liptow of Oshkosh and Ralph Liptow of Ripon; one sister, Arlene Heffernon of Rockford, IL; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Eldon Liptow.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 5, 1998, at 3:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon with Reverend Paul Holte officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Garden of the Cross.
