Esther Bent

Mary Esther (Limbach) Bent, age 79, of Ripon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 1997.

Born January 20, 1918, in Anamosa, Iowa, a daughter of Clifford and Cora Brooks French. She attended schools in Iowa, Louisiana and Illinois, and graduated from Ripon College in 1940. On October 18, 1940, at her parents’ home in Chicago, she married John Phillip Limbach of New Jersey. She resided in Madison and in Ripon. With her husband, operated Ripon Micro slides Laboratory from 1959, until his death by March 5, 1973. She married Harold Bent on July 12, 1980, and resided on Park Street until Harold’s death on September 11, 1995.

She is survived by three children, John Paul Limbach (Joyce), Sarasota, Florida, Mary Massey (Joseph), Mesa, Arizona and Steven Limbach (Jalaine), Sun Prairie; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Jean Winters, Waunakee. She is further survived by five stepchildren, John Bent (Mary) Burlington, David Bent (Jean) Omaha, Nebraska, James Bent (Shelly) Racine, Ruth Pearson (Garry) of Rockford, IL and Diane L. Mosey Highland Park, IL; brother-in-law, Roland Bent (Adeline) Lakeland, FL; sister-in-law, Marion Detry (Bob) Green Bay; 17 step-grandchildren and 29 step-great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Ripon Historical Society, Ripon Science Club, South Woods Park Association, Ripon Chapter of AARP and the American Association of University Women.

She was a very beloved mother and friend who touched the lives of many people. Indeed she lived a very rich, rewarding and full life. In accordance with her wishes, her ashes shall be interred with those of her 1st husband, John Phillip Limbach at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ripon.

Friends and family are invited to join in a Memorial Service which will be held Sunday, December 14, 1997, at 2:00 pm at the First Congregational Church, 220 Ransom St. in Ripon with Reverend John N. Bixby, Jr. officiating. Those who wish are highly encouraged to bring along brief stories or remembrances of their relationships with Mary Esther, either in written form or to share orally at her service. Readers will be available for those to whom speaking might be difficult. Everyone is welcome to refreshment/sharing time which will follow the service.

Because of her involvement in so many groups, persons are encouraged to give memorial gifts in her name to any of the groups to which she belonged. Suggested groups include: Hospice Program, Ripon Historical Society, Local AARP Chapter, Ripon Senior Citizens Center and South Woods Park Association.
