Ethel Brunson

Ethel Cecelia Brunson, age 90, Ripon, died November 5, 1995 at Hillhaven Medical & Rehabilitation of Oshkosh.

She was born July. 5, 1905 in the Town of Springvale, a daughter of the late Henry and Rose (Gilmartin) Reilley On July 3, 1934 she married Percy Brunson and they farmed in the Town of Metomen and the Rosendale area. Ethel attended Brandon High School and Fond du Lac County Teachers Normal. She taught for a number of years and later clerked in dress shops, Merwins in Fond du Lac and Royal Fashions and Pearls in Ripon. Mrs. Brunson was a member of St Wenceslaus Catholic Church of Ripon. She also was a member of the Christian Women’s Club of Ripon, Rosendale Federated Women’s Club, past president of the Willowlane Homemakers, and was the first adult leader of the Spring Valley 4-H Club. Ethel belonged to the Fond du Lac County Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Marilyn (James) Smith of Searcy, Arkansas and Joan (David) Hielke of Pickett; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Hazel Whitney of Ripon and Pearl Reilley of Chicago; several nieces and nephews and 1 special niece, Ann Palm. She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 infant son, 5 brothers and 1 sister.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, November 8, 1995 at 10 am at St Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Ripon with the Reverend William L. Toelle officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosendale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 7 pm with a prayer vigil at 7 pm at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. A Memorial has been established.
