Ethel Chipman, age 89, of Ripon, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.
Ethel was born on May 10, 1918, in Albion, Michigan, the daughter of Arthur and Elsie (Jonas) Wendt. She came to Ripon at the age of 22 months, when her parents died from the flu and she lived with her maternal grandparents, August and Julia Jonas. She graduated from Ripon High School in 1939. On October 19, 1948 she married Robert J. Chipman and together they operated the Bon Ton Tavern on the square in Ripon from 1948 to 1968. Ethel was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 5278 in Ripon and a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon. She worked at Ripon Advertisers as an inspector. Ethel was an excellent seamstress.
Survivors include 1 daughter, Terese (Paul) Chipman Schervish and 1 son, Charles (Laura) Chipman; 6 grandchildren, Melissa, Julia, Jacob, Gabriel, Ashley, and Alexander; 2 great-grandchildren, Jared and Lindsay. Ethel was preceded in death by 1 infant daughter, Catherine Ann; her husband, Robert; her parents, and maternal grandparents, August and Julia Jonas.
Visitation for Ethel Chipman will be from 9-11:00 am, on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon.
Funeral service for Ethel Chipman will be at 11:00 am, on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon with Reverend Mark R. West officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Ripon. Memorials can be given to Hospice Home of Hope, 400 Hwy K, Fond du Lac, WI 54935.
