Eugene D. Janes, age 76, of the Town of Brooklyn, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at his home.
Eugene was born August 25, 1938, in Oshkosh, WI, the son of Vergne and Margaret (Sargeant) Janes. He graduated from Green Lake High School in 1958. Eugene married Darlene Tettenborn August 14, 1958 at The Federated Church of Green Lake where he was a lifetime member. He went on to serve our country in the United States Army from 1958 1962. Eugene worked for the Green Lake Highway Department as shop foremen and also owned his own small engine repair business. For many years Eugene was involved with raising pure bred Siberian Huskies. At one time Eugene had an impressive 45 sled dogs. Eugene donated much of his time and sled dogs to many of the areas associations including; Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Winter Fest in Green Lake where he brought Santa Clause to town with the dog team for the Christmas parade. Eugene also loved educating the local area schools about the sled dogs. Eugene and his team of dogs also gave rides for the Green Lake Fishery and Winterfest where he helped organize the dog sled races in Green Lake. Eugene was a member of the Wisconsin Trappers Association and loved spending time outdoors. He once had a photo shoot with the Marlboro Man. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly. Eugene was a true pack leader.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Janes of the Town of Brooklyn; children, Joyce Janes of West Bend, WI, Vergne (Andrea) Janes of Hubertus, WI, and Nancy (Dennis) Sauerbrei of Fairwater, WI; grandchildren, Jenny (Nick) Wirkus and their son Benjamin, Christopher Weidner and his Fiancée Megan, Kaitlin Weidner, Peyton Janes and daughter Skylar, April Janes, Alyssa Janes, Josh Janes, Matthew Lemke, Karyn Smith and daughter Storm, and Veronica Sauerbrei; sister, Patricia Johnson; aunt, Pat Stadler; half-brother, Dennis (Linda) McFarland; sisters and brothers in law, Judy Stadler, Shirley (Tom) Wollert, Marilyn (David) Sonntag, Robert Mehn and Jim Jacoby. Eugene is further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Vergne and Margaret Janes; sisters, Caroll Mehn and Mary Jacoby; brother, Lee Stadler and is further proceeded in death by his uncle, Ron Stadler.
Visitation for Eugene D. Janes will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2015, from 9 11:00 a.m. at The Federated Church of Green Lake, 489 Scott St., P.O. Box 471, Green Lake, WI 54971.
Funeral Service for Eugene D. Janes will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at The Federated Church in Green Lake. Reverend Karen Gygax Rodriguez will officiate. Interment will follow at Bluffton Cemetery in the Township of Brooklyn with full military honors. A memorial is being established.
