Eugene (Gene) W. Jess, age 76, of 648 Emerson Ave, Ripon, passed away Wednesday morning, June 22, 2005, at Ripon Medical Center in Ripon.
He was born in Ripon on March 15, 1929, the son of Karl Jess & Lucille (Hutchison) Jess Gibson. After graduating from Ripon High School in 1947, he began his working career as receiving clerk at Speed Queen. He then went on to the print shop, advertising for Commercial Sales, and became Commercial Sales Manager. Gene retired from the plant in 1991 after 44 years. He never forgot his love affair with his Speed Queen Family. All the people he worked with were not only co-workers, but his true friends. On October 14, 1950, he married Lorraine Wahoske in Ripon. He was a member of Our Saviours United Church of Christ, Ripon.
Since 1967, Gene had been involved with the Wisconsin Power Boat Association, as his son Coopers true love was outboard boat racing. Gene, along with his family, was a member of the boat racing circuit and made many wonderful friends that he enjoyed all his life. Above all, Geno cherished his family, and felt truly blessed to have a wonderful family of close friends.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; son, Cooper Jess of Ripon; daughter, Connie Jess Zolkoske (Chuck), of New London; sister-in-law, Rosalie Jess of Ripon; nieces, Luanne Punky McConnell (Doug), and Linda Jess, both of Ripon; nephew, Lee Jess (Cathy) of Ripon; and brother-in-law, Ron Wahoske (Gerry) and family. His great nieces and nephews, Jessica & Lesley McConnell and Jeremy & Jordan Jess will miss their Uncle Blue Jeans. He was preceded in death by parents; stepfather, Homer Gibson; and brother, Doug Jess.
Funeral service for Eugene W. Jess will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Our Saviours United Church of Christ, Ripon with the Rev. Gerald Schrankler officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon, and again at the church on Saturday from 9:00-10 a.m. A memorial has been established. Interment will be Garden of the Cross Cemetery, Ripon.
