Eugene Gene Mirr passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014. He was born on August 7, 1935 in Berlin, WI to Edward and Florence (Ikeman) Mirr. He married Carol Keipe on January 29, 1955.
For over 50 years he was owner of Mirrs Tree Service in Green Lake, WI. For 10 plus winters he rented fish shanties on Big Green making a name for himself as an excellent fisherman. He also excelled at trapping.
Gene loved baseball and was involved with youth leagues and sponsored an adult softball team for many years. Hunting was intricle throughout Genes life. He traveled to many states and Canada for the moose and elk but had a special place in his heart for deer hunting at the hunting shack near Neilsville. Too many hours to count were spent there with new generations learning his love for the outdoors. In 1972 began his desire for deep sea fishing and for many decades the Florida Keys, especially Sunshine Key, were like a second home. Many friends and family have great memories of fishing in the Keys with Gene.
Survivors include his wife Carol and their six children, 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Son, Charles (Lynn) with children, Nathan (Melanie) and Gabriella & Finley. Michelle (Chris) Thomas and Sofia, Helena & Solomon. Abigail (Justin Lewis) and Jaydon, Olivia, Everett and Quinn. Amanda (Andrew) Wallace and Addeline, Orin & Emma. Daughter, LuAnn (Warren) Mirr-Frank with children Adam, Jaquelyn (Mitch) Tock, Lydia (Chris Wagner) Hammen and London & James, Sarah (Norm Roberts ) and Avery, Jennifer (Jason) Erickson and Josh Frank. Son, Richard with daughter Haylie. Daughter, Debra (Patrick Ritter) with children Benjamin (Kim) Lavold and Grace Carol & Katie, Elijah and Lucas Ritter. Son, Philip (Anne) with children Dustin, Brittany and her daughter Brooklynn, Hunter and Coral. Son, Christopher with sons Zachary & Brayton and a very special person to our family, Shelley Schwandt. He is further survived by a sister, Geraldine Jacobs of Chicago, brother-in-law Lewis (Geri) Keipe, and sister-in-law, Muriel Alling. Many nieces, nephews and numerous friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Richard and Marlin, Carols parents, Arthur and Muriel Kiepe, brothers-in-law Charles Jacobs, Howard Alling, sister-in-law, Joan Kiepe, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Pettack-Mirr.
Visitation for Gene will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014, from 9 11:00 am at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971.
A celebration of life for Gene will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 11:00 am at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. The family asks that you come and share stories with them about Gene. A memorial is being established in his name.
