Ferne F. Haensgen, age 103, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2006 at Ripon Medical Center.
Ferne Haensgen was born October 1, 1903 in Darwin, Minnesota, the daughter of Albert and Myrtie (Bazeley) Fortnum. She attended Ripon College and the University of Wisconsin and graduated in 1921. Ferne lived in the Ripon area most of her life and on May 30, 1926 she married Raymond J. Haensgen. She was Secretary-Treasurer of Silver Creek Canning Co. from 1937 until the time it was sold in 1955. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Ripon Woman's Club, and Ripon Historical Society.
Ferne is survived by her son, Philip Haensgen; two granddaughters, Jane (Scott Jordan) Manning, and Katie (Don) Keeton; and two great-granddaughters, Mary and Kelly Keeton. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn Briese. Ferne is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Ferne was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Haensgen, her parents, one daughter Anne Manning, and two brothers, Floyd Fortnum and Nyle Fortnum, and one sister Vilo Utter.
Memorial Service for Ferne Haensgen will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Ripon, with Reverend Mark R. West officiating. Memorials may be given to; First Congregational Church, (Building Fund) 220 Ransom St., Ripon, WI, 54971 or to the Ripon Historical Society, 508 Watson St., Ripon, WI, 54971.
