Florence Montgomery Kummerow, age 101, died peacefully at home in Ripon on Monday, December 2, 1996.
Florence was born August 5, 1895, in Van Wert, Ohio, daughter of A.P. Montgomery and Mary (Mahan) Montgomery. She married Paul F. Kummerow on December 20, 1919. They shared 58 years together until her husbands death July 17, 1978.
Florence Kummerow was educated in Van Wert and Columbus, Ohio. After high school she attended 2 years of normal school, a teacher preparatory school. Upon graduation she taught elementary school in Washington Court House, Ohio. She received a life teaching certificate from the State of Ohio in 1918.
After her marriage, Florence and Paul made their home in Fond du Lac. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church for 76 years, its oldest member, and was involved in many of the churchs activities. In 1948, she joined the Daughters of The American Revolution and served as the organizations treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the United Commercial Travelers Womans Auxiliary.
She moved to Ripon in 1979. She attended the First Congregational Church and took part in womens activities. In that church she celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family, friends and 100 roses.
Florence is survived by a great niece, Kathro Taylor and her husband Robert and their son Scott of Ripon; great nephew, William Treleven and wife Tammy and stepchildren Christopher and Nicole of Sun Prairie; niece and nephewin-law, Lu and Ralph Kummerow of Madison; and special friend, Jayne Alger of Ripon. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, a sister Grace Bruett and husband Elmer, a niece Miriam Treleven and husband John, and 2 brothersin law, Tillman Kummerow and Andrew Kummerow.
Services will be held at ButzinMarchant Funeral Home, Ripon on Thursday, December 5, 1996, at 11 A.M., with visitation from 10 A.M. until the time of the service. The Rev. Lois Swanson of the First Presbyterian Church of Fond du Lac will officiate. Interment will be in Reinzi Cemetery in Fond du Lac at 2 P.M.
