Forrest Linger

Forrest E. Linger, 91, of Markesan, WI, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Waupun Memorial Hospital.
He was born September 22, 1921, in Grand River, Iowa to George and Mabel (Young) Linger. Forrest spent his youth in Oshkosh, graduating from Oshkosh High School in 1939. He was drafted into the Army on August 29, 1942 and served during WWII as a radio operator on a C-47, arriving in England after D-day to replace crews lost during the invasion. Forrest participated in 22 combat missions, dropping supplies and evacuating the wounded, until his discharge in 1945. He was proud to be part of the 435th Troop Carrier, 78th Squadron and attended reunions in Orlando, Dayton, Colorado Springs, Albuquerque and Louisville.
On June 28, 1947 he married Lois Lueptow in Markesan and together they farmed for over 46 years.
Forrest served as a Deacon at Dalton Bible Church and taught Sunday School at Terrace Shores Church during the 1960's. He enjoyed reading, studying WWII history, crossword puzzles, western movies, riding his Honda 4-wheeler and was an avid Packer fan.
Forrest is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lois of Markesan; children, Stephen Linger and Stuart (Nancy) Linger of Markesan, Janet Linger of Palm Coast, Florida, and Jeffry (Lori) Linger of Eldorado; grandchildren, Stefanie (Frank) Wade of Pewaukee, Nicole Linger of Abington, PA, Kimberly, Karie and Bryan Linger of Eldorado. Forrest is further survived by nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Fern (Dean) Graves and Iris (Bob) Sorenson and a grandson, Jason Linger.
Per Forrest’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will take place at a later date. A memorial is being established.
