Francis J. Ptacek, age 95, of Green Lake, WI, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Prairie Place in Ripon.
Fran was born September 27, 1920, in River Falls, WI, the son of Peter and Lena (Ott) Ptacek. He graduated from River Falls High School and went on to further his education at River Falls Teachers College and Lawrence University. Fran served our country in the United States Navy as an airplane mechanic in WWII. On February 13, 1942, Fran married Helen Hennings in River Falls. He was employed as a high school agriculture teacher in Princeton, WI. Fran also served as the Green Lake County Agriculture Agent and later owned and operated the Ptaceks Red Owl grocery store in Green Lake with his wife, Helen. After selling the store, Fran was a loan officer and Vice President at Farmers and Merchants Bank in Princeton. Fran and Helen were members of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Green Lake since 1950. Fran was a member of the American Legion Post for sixty years and received the Melvin James Fellow Award from the Lions Club for Dedicated Humanitarian Service.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Helen H. Ptacek of Ripon, WI; two sons, James J. (Elvira) Ptacek of Marietta, GA and Gerald P. (Lisa Scott) Ptacek of Racine, WI; one daughter, Betsy (Lou Dobrydnia) Ptacek of Peoria, IL; five grandchildren, Melissa M. Ptacek of Chicago, IL, James F. (Adrienne) Ptacek of Denver, CO, Jill E. (Dar) DeLay of Denver, CO, Tristan A. Scott of Racine, WI and Anna C. Ptacek of Racine, WI and great-grandchildren, Addy, Joe, Malin, and John Wayne Ptacek; Jackson, Marshall and Emilia DeLay, all of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Lena and one brother, Robert B. Ptacek.
Visitation for Fran will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 10 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 530 Ruth St., Green Lake, WI 54971. Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 am, officiated by Father Philip Krogman. The service will conclude with full military honors. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Ptacek family burial plot in Prescott, WI. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations made in his memory to the Green Lake Renewal Organization, P.O. Box 608, Green Lake, WI 54941.
