Franklin Burwell Farvour, age 86, 719 Ransom Street, Ripon, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2006 at Ripon Medical Center.
He was born April 28, 1919 in Ripon, a son to Louis and Laura (Klingbail) Farvour. He was educated in Ripon schools, graduating from Ripon College in 1941, and received his Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army ROTC program. On May 8, 1942 he married Rosemary DuMez at Camp Pinedale, California. He served our Country from 1941- 1981 in the U.S. Army, during World War II in the European Theatre, and then in the Army Reserve, and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Frank was a Partner in The Farvour Insurance Agency, a Registered Land Surveyor, Town of Ripon Treasurer, Stock room Supervisor Chemistry Department, Ripon College, and Adjunct Scholar of Anthropology at Ripon College. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Ripon Rifle and Pistol Club, Ripon Writers Club, Ripon Kiwanis Club, Ripon College Alumni Association, Ripon Historical Society, Wisconsin Mercedes Benz Club, President of Ripon Historic Preservation Commission, Eastern States Rock Art Research Association, and the Mid-America Geographic Foundation. He was the eighth registered land surveyor in the State of Wisconsin, and remained registered until he died. In addition, his interests included wine making, photography, writing, being an amateur geologist and anthropologist, and a local historian. Frank was well informed and an entertaining public speaker. He was licensed as a small craft pilot.
Survivors include his children, Marylin (Lynne) Shaw and Thomas Farvour, both of Ripon; Richard (Kathleen) Farvour of Waukesha; grandchildren, Patricia Tricia Shaw, Christopher (Kathryn) Shaw, Deirdre (David) Popp, Jennifer (Mark) Affleck, Brian and Paul Farvour; great-grandchildren, Aaron Shaw, Sara and Daniel Popp, Andrew and Caitlin Affleck, and special friend, Shirley Williams. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary, and his parents.
VISITATION: For Franklin Burwell Farvour will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, from 3:00 5:00 p.m., in Great Hall at Ripon College, Ripon.
FUNERAL SERVICE: For Franklin Burwell Farvour will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at 5:00 p.m., at Great Hall, Ripon College. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Ripon Historical Society and Ripon College.
