George Robert Gray, Sr., 92, of the American House, Ripon, died Sunday January 1, 1995, at Parkview Care Center, Ripon.
He was born May 28, 1902, in Tomahawk, WI, son of the late John Harley and Georgia Paul Gray. He married Olive Ruth Buchholz in Waupun on August 23, 1924. Mr. Gray attended Ripon High School, Ripon College and Marquette University Pharmacy Course. He was a pharmacist for 57 years at E.J. Burnside and at Grays Rexall Drug Stores. He had resided in Tomahawk, Meridian, MS, Chicago, IL, Hartford, WI, and in Ripon for about 76 years. Bob Gray, Sr. was a member and past senior warden of St. Peters Episcopal Church, Ripon, member and past president of Ripon Kiwanis, Tuscumbia Mens Golf Assoc. and the Ripon Chamber of Commerce. He had been a member of the Naval Reserve and the Wisconsin National Guard. Bob enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf, and playing cards.
He is survived by 3 sons, G. Robert Gray, Jr. (Gladys), Ripon, Dr. John H. Gray (Shirley), Neenah, and David N. Gray (Judith), Ripon; a half-brother, Nathan Lawless (Florence), Ripon; 11 grandchildren,. Dr. Pamela Gray, Hammondsport, NY, Barbara Barry, Madison, Catherine Wood, Greendale, Scott Gray, St. Cloud, MN, John Gray, Tornah, Dr. Emily Robinson, Winsten-Salem, NC, Lora Hoeveler, Minneapolis, MN, Jennifer Gray, Crested Butte, CO, Shelley Gray, St. Paul, MN, Nancy Gray, Appleton, and Sarah Gray, Sheboygan; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Buchholz Gray; 2 brothers, Leslie and Paul Gray; and a half-brother, Harold Lawless.
Funeral services for G. Robert Gray, Sr. will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 1995, at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Ripon. The Reverend Robert J.C. Brown and the Reverend William Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon.
