Gene K. Ladwig, 91, of Green Lake passed away Sunday, October 27, 2024. His final days were spent with family at his home overlooking the panoramic view of his fields. Gene was born September 19, 1933, in Richfield, Wisconsin, the son of Gordon and Clara Kohnke Ladwig.
While serving in the U.S. Air Force in Texas, Gene met and married Doris Bush. Together they had 4 children: Donny, Beverly, Patricia and Kenneth.
Along with farming, Gene loved gardening and creating recipes enjoyed by all from his harvest. He appreciated meeting new people throughout his life from his farming days, work at Speed Queen, years spent tending bar at Heidel House and Alfred’s, to his business ventures including Lake Snowmobile Sales and Far View Golf where he built golf clubs and made club repairs. His ability to draw people out with his inquisitive nature, honest dialogue, and humor all lent to engaging conversation. Gene was mechanically inclined, always problem solving and trying to make things work better. His sensible approach in all aspects and strong faith in God led to a life well lived.
Gene was a successful business owner, a farmer, a father, an uncle, a friend to many. But most of all he relished his role as grandfather and great grandfather.
Survivors include his children: Beverly (Bob) Sandberg of Minocqua, WI; Patty (Greg) Roth of Ripon, WI; and Ken (Anne Kallas, Fond du Lac) Ladwig of Green Lake, WI; grandchildren: Elliot (Melissa) Ladwig of Eugene, OR; Haley (Eric) Richter of Fond du Lac, WI; Katelyn Aumann of Marinette, WI; Ashley (Ryan) Powell of De Pere, WI; Natalie, Victor, and Jolene Sandberg all of Minocqua WI; Emily (Erik) Johnson of Ripon WI; Melissa (husband Matthew Kutz) Roth of Princeton, WI; Lesley (Nate) Steffen of Green Lake, WI; Eric (Trisha) Ladwig of Whitehouse, TX; and Andrew Ladwig of Green Lake, WI; 22 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Catherine “Kay” Ladwig.
