George Keith Cotton, 79, of Searcy, AR, formerly of Ripon, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2005, at his home.
He was born November 24, 1925, in Wautoma, the son of Warren and Mona (Smith) Cotton. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He was a lifetime member of the Ripon V.F.W. George married Irene Kreger on August 14, 1948, and they were active members of the First Congregational Church of Ripon. After working at Speed Queen for over 25 years, he moved to Searcy in 1970.
George had been involved with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) in Searcy for many years, and served as President of the AARP Chapter. George was also involved with the Good Samaritan Center, which sought to help people in need, and also worked with the SALT (Seniors and Lawmen Together) Council. He was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church, and his service to the community of Searcy has been a model for many.
Survivors include two sons, Keith (Angela) Cotton of Searcy and Allan (Vicki) Burr of Redgranite; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ronald and Warren Cotton, both of IL, and several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene on February 27, 2004; two brothers, Merlin and Kenneth; and one great-grandson, Thomas Nighbor.
Funeral service for George K. Cotton will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2005, at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon with Reverend Jack W. Kraaz officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. A funeral service was held in Searcy at an earlier date. Memorials in his name may be made to the Good Samaritan Center, 1512 West Park St, Searcy, AR 72143.
