George Towne

February 15, 1906 — December 25, 1989

George E. Towne, 83, of 627 Lincoln St. Ripon, died Monday, December 25, 1989, at Ripon Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 15, 1906, Waupun to Salem and Bernice Woods Towne. On June 14, 1936, he married Lillie Radke in Ripon.

Mr. Towne was educated in Waupun and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Stout in 1934. He was a public school teacher in Tampa, Florida. He was Speed Queen superintendent of die cast at Omro from 1949 until his retirement in 1971. He had resided in Ripon the last 48 years and was a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, Ripon and a member of the Ripon-Green Lake Masonic Lodge #95.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Gale Pankartz of Berlin and two granddaughters, Lisa of Madison and Jill of Berlin. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 am at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon. The Reverend Harley C.W. Tretow will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Ripon.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 until 8 pm at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon where a Masonic Service will be held at 7 pm.
