Gerald "Jerry" Kautzer

June 27, 1930 — April 17, 2000

Gerald “Jerry” Arthur Kautzer, age 69, died Monday, April 17, 2000 at Mercy Medical Center, Oshkosh due to complications of diabetes, and heart and lung disease.

He was born in Goodrich, WI on June 27, 1930 to his parents Edward L. Kautzer and Althea E. Green. He attended country school and worked on the farm. He furthered his education and life, and entered into the Army in June 1948. Jerry served at Fort Knox, KY and overseas in Germany during the Berlin Air lift. After returning to the US he was stationed in Chicago, IL at the Oaklawn Military Site until re-enlisting in the US Air Force in 1958.

He met his wife Maryanfl Opelka in Chicago, and they were married on November 12, 1955 in Oak Park, IL. They finished out his years in the military in Texas and Washington, retiring in 1968 as First Sergeant of the Transportation Squadron at Wurtsmith AFB, Michigan. They returned to Wisconsin to live in Green Lake where he was active with the American Legion Post #306, was elected State Commander and later National Executive Committeema~ He was a stong advocate for the Veterans and served six years on the State of Wisconsin i Board Veterans Affairs. Jerry became a member of the La Societe des Quarante Horn mes et Huit Chevaux (40 et 8) and became Chef of his local Voiture 738 Fond du Lac County and went on to become Grande Chef de Gare of du Wisconsin and also Sous Chef de Chemin de Fer for Natioflale representing Wisconsin and other states. He was also active in the Ripon Kiwanis, Ripon Chamber of Commerce, Green Lake School Board, Town of Brooklyn and Green Lake County Board Supervisor.

Jerry worked for the Diedrich Insurance Company and had an office in Ripon and Cambria until he retired in 1998. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Green Lake, until moving to Oshkosh in June where he was a member of St Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church in Oshkosh.

He leaves Maryanfl his wife of 44 years; 6 children, Mary Frances Kautzer, Portland, OR, Maureen (Rick) Nelson, Cambria, John Kautzer,

Beaver Dam, Dianne (Bruce) Walker, Green Lake, Frank (Margaret) Kautzer, Neenah, and Leah Kautzer, Oshkosh. He is further survived by 10 grandchildren, Brandon, Luke, Desiree, Amanda, Kyle, Ashlie, Desi Ray, Tiffanie, Lance and Jenna. Two brothers, Ray (Mert) Kautzer and Earl (Joan) Kautzer both of Princeton, and one brother Dale (Mary) Kautzer of Ripon, one sister, Faye (Tom) Sondalle of Princeton. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jacqueline Kempfer and Zella Kaping. Beside loving his grandchildren, Jerry loved to hunt, play golf and travel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at St Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, Oshkosh with Father Daniel Felton officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the time of the mass at the church. Interment will be in Princeton City Cemetery, Princeton. The family requests that any memorials be given to the American Diabetes Association in his name.
