Gertrude L. Briese, age 86, formerly of Fairwater, died Sunday morning, October 7, 2001, at the Markesan Resident Home in Markesan.
She was born October 28, 1914, in Ripon, the daughter of Henry and Minnie (Press) Hielsberg. She was educated in Ripon. On September 16, 1950, she married Paul Briese. Gertrude worked in the Fairwater Cannery and also had a cleaning business.
Survivors include her children, Leonard (Shanon) Cleland of CA, Irvin (Janet) Cleland of Fond du Lac, Audrey (Earl) Beek of Brandon, Judith Cleland of Fond du Lac and Ronald (Janice) Briese of Fairwater; stepson, Lawrence (Mary) Briese of Germania; brother, Armin Hielsberg of Germantown; 16 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters, Loraine and Janet Cleland; one son, James Cleland; stepson, Kenneth Briese; seven brothers and two sisters.
A private family visitation will be Thursday, October 11, 2001, from 5 – 7:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Private family funeral service will be held Friday, October 12, 2001, at 11 am at the funeral home with Reverend Tom Meyer officiating. Interment will be in Fairwater Cemetery. A memorial is established.
