Gertrude Griffith McDonald, age 92, of Green Lake, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Kindred Hearts in Green Lake, a gentle soul with a bright mind and spirit.
She was born August 16, 1915, in Juneau, WI, the daughter of Frederick and Hazel (Barlow) Griffith. Gert attended Downer College in Milwaukee and graduated from the University of Wisconsin.
She was a loving mother to Robert G. “Griff” McDonald of Ann Arbor, MI and Mary Ellen Carne of Madison, WI. Gert was wife and helpmate extraordinaire to Robert E. McDonald and special friend to those who knew her. She lived a full life with great dignity, acceptance and humor. She loved to golf, travel, read, play bridge with good friends, knit and stitch for family. Of greatest importance was caring for and enjoying her home on Green Lake, remembering family history and sharing good times with husband, family and friends in Green Lake, WI and Scottsdale, AZ.
Survivors include a son, Robert G. “Griff” (Pat) McDonald; daughter, Mary Ellen (Ron) Carne; 4 grandchildren, Scott (Christine) McDonald, Marti (Greg) Hurd, Meg (Peter Strasburger) Carne and Andrew (Danielle) Carne; 7 great-grandchildren, Grace and Emily McDonald, Spencer and Trystin Hurd, Dorsey Strasburger and Matilda and Wesley Carne; 2 very special friends, Eleanor Griffith (sister-in-law) and college roommate Virgina (Timmie) Meyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert E. McDonald and 1 brother, Frederick Griffith Jr.
A celebration of Gertrude’s life will be held on a later date. Memorials may be given to: St. Agnes Hospice Hope Foundation, 430 E. Division St. Fond du Lac, WI 54935.
