Gertrude Trudy Smoody, age 83, of rural Berlin, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2008, at Fountain View Care Center in Ripon.
She was born Gertrude Lilla Redemann in rural Green Lake, on March 6, 1925 the daughter of Herbert A. and Lilla E. (Schrader) Redemann. Trudy graduated from Berlin High School in the Class of 1943. On January 31, 1948 she married Robert Smoody in Watertown, WI. Robert passed away on August 22, 1969. Trudy spent most of her life in the Green Lake and Berlin area. She worked at Truesdell Furs for 39 years as a stitcher and pattern maker, and worked as a dog groomer for quite a few years. Trudy did volunteer visitations at Juliette Manor and enjoyed working at crafts, reading, writing letters, working with plants, sewing and dancing.
Survivors include her son Jeff Smoody of Kelowna, British Columbia; grandson, Tyler Smoody and granddaughter, Oliva Smoody both of Portland, OR; brother, Ralph Redemann of Berlin, WI; brother-in-law, Claire Johnson of Scottsdale, AZ; sister-in-law, Mary Rector of Berlin, WI, and Margret Smoody of Ladysmith, WI; many dear nieces nephews, and friends. Trudy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Dorothy Johnson; brother, Bernard Redemann; special companion, Lidio Passarelli; and her beloved pets, Missy her dog and Spook her cat.
Visitation for Gertrude L. Smoody will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon.
A graveside funeral service will follow the visitation at Dartford Cemetery, Green Lake; Rodney Kemnitz will be the Reader. A memorial has been established.
