Gilbert Van Kirk

Gilbert Horace Van Kirk, age 98, Ripon, passed away Monday morning, April 3, 2006, at Fountain View Care Center, Ripon.

He was born January 4, 1908 in Green Lake County, a son to Ella (Armstrong) and Furman Van Kirk. He was educated at Clark School and Ripon High School. On October 2, 1943, Gilbert married Erna Retzlaff at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon. Gilbert was a farmer and a member of Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, Ripon, The Usher Club and Brotherhood of the Church, Farm Bureau, and Royal Neighbors.

He is survived by Lorraine (Earl) Fischer, Ripon; great-nephews, Kenneth Fischer, Calvin (Sandy) Fischer and their children, Katie, Abby, Elizabeth and Jason; great-niece Karen (Bill) Denkert and their boys, Joshua and Mark all of Ripon. He is also survived by several other great-nieces and nephews and great-great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Erna; and sister Florence Van Kirk.

Visitation for Gilbert H. Van Kirk will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 6, 2006 at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2006 at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon.

Funeral Service for Gilbert H. Van Kirk will be held Friday, April 7, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon, with the Reverend Mark R. West officiating. Interment will be in Liberty Prairie Cemetery in the Town of Utica. Memorials may be directed to Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ, 343 Scott Street, Ripon, WI. 54971.
