Gladys Hammen

Gladys L. Hammen, age 79, of N8799 CTY E, Ripon, passed away Thursday afternoon February 23, 2006, at Appleton Medical Center with her family at her side.

Gladys was born on May 27, 1926, in the Town of Ripon, the daughter of Ernest “Edward” and Lena (Lindow) Liefke. She graduated from Ripon High School in the Class of 1944, as the Salutatorian of her class. She worked for the Ripon Schultz Dime Store and the Ripon Pickle Company and Ripon Lumber Company. On September 2, 1945, she married Earl A. Hammen. Gladys and Earl farmed Registered Holstein cattle and Hereford pigs north of Ripon. Gladys also worked at Rippin Good Cookie, and as an office manager at Ripon Equity Livestock, Town Clerk for the Town of Ripon, secretary for Loper Cemetery Assn, 4-H leader of Ripon 4-H, member of Homemakers club and the VFW Aux. Gladys enjoyed playing cards at the Pickett Community Center, Bingo and potluck dinners at the Ripon Senior Center. Her constant companion was a Boston terrier dog, called Sammy. She was a great cook and won the Fond du Lac Reporter cooking contest with her Zucchini casserole.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Nyla (Tom) Keuler, AnnDee (Bryan) Peth, 2 adopted sons, James and Tom, all of Ripon. Grandchildren; Kerrie Peth-Stenhott, Kelly (Shannon) Peth, Kristi Peth & fiancée, Larry Peters, Genoa City, WI, Clint Keuler of Eau Claire, Matt Keuler, Oshkosh, Jacquie, Lydia and Sarah Hammen, Green Lake. Great-grandchildren; Hunter and Nicolas Stenholt, Brett and Brice Peth and one brother-in-law; Bud Briske. Phenoix, AZ. Nieces and nephews; Chuck (Sue) Siedschlag, Lehann (Denny) Mullins, Mike (Sally) Briske, Penny (Dick) Cole, Mary (Jim) Jaster, Susan (Dennis) Braeger, Jim (Nan) Schilder. Cousins and many other relatives.

Preceded in death by; her parents, her husband, Earl, sister & brother-in-law, Elsie and Edgar Siedschlag, sister, Ruth Briske and brother Erwin Liefke.

Funeral services for Gladys Hammen will be held on Monday, February 27, 2006 at Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ in Ripon, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Mark R. West officiating. Friends may call on Sunday, February 26, 2006 from 3-8 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at Loper Cemetery, Town of Ripon. A memorial has been established.
