Glenn Schimmel

Glenn Henry Schimmel, age 86, of Fairwater, WI, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, with his loving family by his side.

Glenn was born May 22, 1928, at home in Fairwater, the son of Henry and Laura (Hanneman) Schimmel. He attended Fairwater grade school and graduated from Ripon High School. Glenn went on to serve our country in the United States Army, and was stationed in Korea from 1946 to 1948. In 1949, Glenn was united in marriage to Marilyn Merkey in Ripon. He then went on to further his education for 2 years in Business Class. He worked for Stellmacher Lumber Company in Fairwater for 16 years and then was a manager at W.R. Grace and Company in Ripon for 23 years. In his early years, Glenn was a volunteer firefighter for the Fairwater Fire Department and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. Glenn was a great husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to camp with his grandchildren. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Schimmel of Fairwater, WI; son, Gregory (Linda) Schimmel of Fond du Lac, WI; daughter, Jayne (David) Moodie of Sun Prairie, WI; grandson, Scott Schimmel of Fond du Lac, WI; granddaughter, Laura Moodie of Greendale, WI; grandson, Benjamin Moodie of Sun Prairie, WI; great-granddaughter, Samantha Schimmel of Oshkosh, WI; great-grandson, Hunter Moodie of Janesville, WI. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harry and one sister, Bernice Warren.


Visitation for Glenn Schimmel will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, from 4 – 7:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971 and again on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, from 10 – 11:00 am at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 430 West Griswold St., Ripon, WI 54971.

Funeral service for Glenn Schimmel will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at 11:00 am at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon. Reverend Clay R. Salmela will officiate. Interment will follow at Fairwater Cemetery in the Village of Fairwater with Full Military Honors. A memorial is being established in his name.
