Gordon Gordie William Warnke, age 85, of Ripon, WI, went to Jesus birthday party on Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at his home, surrounded by loving members of his family.
Gordie was born May 16, 1928 in Princeton, WI, the son of Otto and Frieda (Luedtke) Warnke. He was educated in the Princeton School District. After graduating from Princeton High School, he went to serve our country in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. On October 25, 1952, Gordie married Betty Scharschmidt in Markesan, WI. He worked for many years as a corrections officer at the former Central State Hospital in Waupun and later he and Betty ran Center House Bar and Restaurant in Green Lake along with his son, Dan and daughter, Jean. Gordie enjoyed golfing and watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Bucks Basketball. Most of all he loved his family and grandchildren. He liked to drive to vacation destinations throughout Wisconsin and the United States.
Survivors include his devoted wife Betty; children: Susan (Dave) Schroeder, Daniel (Jan) Warnke, Joanne (David) Buettner, James (Amy) Michael, Robert Warnke, and Jean (Kurt) Rabenhorst. Grandchildren: Kevin, Kate and Karyn Rabenhorst, John and Evan Warnke, Jeff and Lauren Pascarella, Liz and Alex Buettner, and Eric Warnke. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and Don Warnke; sister, Ruth Marie Hardell; and daughter-in-law, Mary.
Visitation for Gordie Warnke will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. 12:00 noon at Messiah Lutheran Church, 500 Mayparty Drive, Ripon, WI 54971.
A Celebration of Life for Gordie Warnke will be on Monday, December 30, 2013, at 12:00 noon at Messiah Lutheran Church, Ripon. Reverend Bryan Fritsch will officiate. Inurnment will follow at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church, or Agnesian Hospice Hope, 745 South Street, Green Lake, WI 54941.
