Gordon Sabel

Gordon “Gordy” Sabel, 95, of Ripon, WI, was called to heaven on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at his Ripon home.

Gordon was born on March 11, 1930, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, WI to Benedict and Marcella (Guelig) Sabel. He grew up on a dairy farm in Brandon and attended school there. Gordon served in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard from 1951 - 1958. On November 3, 1956, he married his wife, Inez Henslin at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater, WI. They enjoyed 68 beautiful years together.

Gordon worked at Green Giant in Ripon for 43 years, retiring as foreman/mechanic in 1995. He worked almost every factory job in his time at Green Giant and also volunteered for many company posts including the chair of the safety committee and as plant fire chief for 30 years. Additionally, Gordon was a farmer and loved tending to his chickens, sheep, and steers. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council. Gordon was a devoted and proud Grandpa to his four grandsons and granddaughter. He was involved and supportive of his grandchildren’s activities, including helping with all of their Eagle Scout projects, attending sports, recitals, and more.

He loved spending time with his family, animals, gardening, playing cards, hunting, and watching sports. Gordon was a very hardworking man; his legacy lives on through the countless memories he created with those who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Sabel; three children: Michael (Norma) Sabel, Dennis (Kathryn) Sabel, and Christine (Erik) Taylor; five grandchildren: David (Alana Dopp) Sabel, Johnny Sabel, Lizzy Sabel, Thomas (Katie) Sabel, and Michael Taylor; sister: Agnes Perry; sisters-in-law: Lois Sabel, Ardis Sabel, and Beverly Henslin; and many other nieces; nephews; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benedict and Marcella Sabel; six brothers: Gilbert (Dorothy), Charles (Nora), Oscar (Myrtle), Harold, Donald, and Richard Sabel; two sisters: Gladys (Gerald) Langenfeld and Marie (Lawrence) Kraus; and two brothers-in-law, Arden Henslin and Donald Perry.

Visitation for Gordon will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 9:30 am - 11:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 100 Church St., Fairwater, WI 53931.

A funeral service for Gordon will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 11:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater, with Pastor Kimberly Stowell officiating. You may view a livestream of the funeral service at 11:30 am by visiting www.zionfairwater.com/livestream. A final salute and full military honors will take place at the church immediately following the funeral service. Interment will then take place at Fairwater Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.
