Gordon Hunger

August 16, 1918 — January 1, 2003

Gordon William Hunger, age 84, of 632 Ransom St., Ripon, died January 1, 2003, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born August 16, 1918, a son to William F. and Viola (Poblitz) Hunger. Gordon graduated from Ripon High School, and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. On January 26, 1946, he married Dolores Kohl at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. Gordon lived in Ripon most of his life, and was District Manager for the telephone company for 35 years. He was a member of the V.F.W. Schultz-Klemp-Wentland Post #5278, was past commander of the post, and belonged to the V.F.W. Cream of the Crop group. Gordon belonged to the Military Order of the Cooties, Pup Tent No. 22, and was a past Seam Squirrel. He was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Ripon Rotary. His hobbies were fishing and hunting. He also was an avid gardener, and an all-sports fan, especially the Green Bay Packers.

Surviving are his wife, Dolores Hunger of Ripon; 2 daughters, Pam Stecker of Ripon and Carla (Steve) Berndt of Markesan; 1 son, Jeffrey (Lisa) Hunger of Berlin; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer & Jaclyn Jackowski, Katie Stecker, and Heather & Jon Brown; 1 sister, Hazel Fox of Markesan; 3 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kohl, Bernice Griffin and Audrey Bauer. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers-in-law, Marvin Fox, Dick Kohl, Jack Griffin and Dr. Douglas Bauer; and 1 nephew, Tom Fox.

Funeral services for Gordon W. Hunger will be Monday, January 6, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul L. Holte officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m. followed by a V.F.W. service at 6 p.m. Visitation will also be at the church on Monday from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon. Memorials will be given to the American Cancer Society, Grace Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
