Gordon Gordy Gene Ziska, age 62, of Markesan, WI, died unexpectedly Sunday, October 19, 1997, at Ripon Medical Center.
He was born July 10, 1935, in Chicago, IL, a son to Eugene A. and Bea (Mikulecky) Ziska. After 12 years of school, he graduated from Lindblom High School and then went on to attend Illinois State Police Academy. He became an Illinois State Police Officer on October 28, 1957, and retired as Master Sergeant on July 31, 1985. On September 8, 1956, he married the former Joan A. Taylor in Chicago.
Gordy was a volunteer in the Marquette Fire Department, belonged to Walleyes for Tomorrow and was a member of the Marquette Turkey Club. For ten years, he coached basketball, baseball and was past President of the Babe Ruth Baseball for Boys in Illinois. He also was an umpire for the Markesan Mens Softball League. Gordy was an avid hunter, golfer, and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his family and coffee with his Marquette Coffee Clutch. Gordy had worked part-time on the Ripon Police Department and was a carpenter by trade. He also owned and operated Gordys Lawn Service. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Joan; four children, Alona (Jim) Bobholz of Friesland, Randy (Charlene) Ziska of Marquette, Darryl (Karen) Ziska of Crown Point, IN and Teri (Lance) Broder of Fairwater; and 11 grandchildren, Nicki, Amber, Cheryl, Randy Jr., Neil, Jenna, Joey, Michelle and Rachel Ziska, and Stephanie and Brittany Broder, and nine step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, one sister-in-law and a granddaughter.
Funeral service will be Saturday, October 25, 1997, at 11 am at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon with Reverend Rick Pettis officiating. Interment will be in the Marquette Cemetery in the Village of Marquette.
Visitation will be Friday, October 24, 1997, from 4 until 8 pm and again on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. A memorial has been established.
