Grace Hahn

February 8, 1916 — October 24, 1999

Grace Lydia (Peschke) Hahn passed away at Parkview Care Center in Ripon on October 24, 1999. Formerly a resident of Hall St., Ripon she had been a resident at Parkview for the past seven years because of numerous medical impairments, the most recent being cancer.

Grace was born in Fairwater, on February 8, 1916, the only child of Charles C. Peschke Jr. and Clara L. (Laper). She was baptized in the Fairwater Zion Lutheran Church and began school in rural Fairwater. At the age of nine, she moved her schooling at the Town Line School. After eighth grade graduation, she assumed the household duties to her mother’s temporary infirmities. She participated in the community social life of the times being especially active in local plays put on at area functions. She kept a brief daily journal for a number of years in addition to saving newsworthy clippings of personal interest, as well as local and national events, much treasured by her loved ones today.

On September 24, 1938, Grace was joined in marriage to Alfred C. Hahn, whereupon Charlie and Clara retired to Ripon and Grace and Alfred maintained the family farm operation. They shared 56 years together, “For Better or Worse, In Sickness and Health” until death parted them on January 29, 1995. During this time in their lives Grace was active in her church and community as a Sunday school teacher, 4-H Leader, school and community volunteer. Later, when her own children were grown, she was more active in her area homemaker group, a neighborhood card group, the Rebekah Lodge, Altar Guild and other church related activities. For close to thirty years, she was “Grandma Grace” for an untold number of small children as their parents worked or needed her assistance for child-care before or after school. She was also widely known for her hand-crafted “Raggedy Ann and Andy” stuffed dolls, sometimes providing loving memories for two generations. She remained active and involved until her health impairments curtailed participation, but always maintained and interest in the people and events around her through both written correspondence and telephone contact. She has touched many, many lives and will be deeply mourned.

Grace is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Ron Perr of Ripon; her precious grandchildren, Linda Walker (Dave Henke) of Fairwater, David and Debbie Hahn of Markesan, Joel and Lori Hahn of Ripon, Darrin and Beth Schultz of Ripon, Rhonda Perr and Rod Hintz of Ripon, John Perr (Jeni Frick) of Ripon, Tim (Hahn) Bock of Wautoma; a designated grandson, Al James of Ripon; and Stephanie Walker of Fairwater. She was preceded in death by her parents, only son, Melvin Ray in November, 1988, devoted spouse, Alfred, two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law in 1997, ’98 and ’99 respectively.
