Harold Bent

Harold Norman Bent, 83, of 722 Park Street, Ripon, died Monday, September 11, 1995, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton.


He was born August 15, 1912 in Green Bay, the son of the late Norman and Edna Jahn Bent. After attending school in Green Bay he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He married the former Norma A. Baerwald on June 4, 1935 in Green Bay. Mr. Bent was employed for over 25 years at Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance in Burlington before moving to Ripon in 1970. After his wife Norma’s death in 1979, Harold married the former Esther French Limbach of Ripon.

In 1957, Mr. Bent helped start the “Y Indian Guide” and later was the author of the book “Bents in Wisconsin Fami1y Tree” He has been an member of the Ripon Senior Citizens, was honored as being one of the 10 Senior Citizens of the Year for Wisconsin in 1985, was a member of the Ripon Chapter of A.A.R.P. and the South Woods Park Association.

He is survived by his wife, Esther; 3 sons, John (Mary) Bent of Burlington, David (Jean) Bent of Omaha, Nebraska and James (Shelly) Bent of Racine; 2 daughters, Ruth •(Garry) Pearson of Rockford, Illinois and Diane L. Mosley of Highland Park, Illinois; 1 brother, Roland (Adeline) Bent of Lakeland, Florida; and 1 sister, Marion (Bob) Detry of Green Bay. He is further survived by 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, along with 3 stepchildren, John (Joyce) Limbach of Sarasota, Florida, Mary (Joseph) Massey of Mesa, Arizona and Steven (Jalaine) Limbach of Sun Prairie; 8 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma, and 1 son-in-law, Bob Mosley.


Funeral services for the late Harold Norman Bent will be 2 P.M. Thursday, September 14, 1995 at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon. The Reverend James D. Mohr will officiate. Inurnment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Green Bay. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the hour of the service at the funeral home. A Memorial has been established in his name for the Ripon Historical Society.
