Harold Meser

April 27, 1921 — December 3, 1992

Harold J. Meser, age 71, of Brookfield, WI, with residences also in Green Lake and Leesburg, FL., passed away Thursday, December 3, 1992 at the Milwaukee County Medical Complex of Milwaukee.

He was born in Hartford, WI on April 27, 1921, the son of John and Rose (Herman) Meser. He married Floraine Ardis Wehrwein on September 19, 1942.

He was educated in Manitowoc and was a Veteran of World War II. He served as bomber pilot in the U.S. Army Corps in the 8th Air Force. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters and the European Campaign Medal with 4 Battle Stars, and was discharged with the rank of Captain.

He and his wife have made their home in Green Lake the last 31 years. Harold joined the Green Lake State Bank in 1961, and served as cashier and executive vice-president until 1966. From then until his retirement in 1983, he was president and director. Until the present, he has continued to serve as chairman of the board.

He was active in civic and community affairs and was one of the organizers of the Green Lake Lions Club and served as president and director, and was awarded life membership in 1984. Harold served as president and director of the Green Lake Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the Green Lake Planning Commission and was treasurer of the Green Lake Development Corporation. He served on various committees of the Wisconsin Bankers’ Association, was treasurer of the Green Lake County Red Cross and was treasurer of the Green Lake area Salvation Army. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church and served as president and secretary, and was on the church council.

In addition to his wife, Floraine, he is survived by 2 sons, Gregg (Barbara) Meser of Glenwood City, WI and Jeffrey (Retta) Meser of Brookfield; 1 daughter, Lane (Gary) Mudra of Bayside; 7 grandchildren, John, Charles, Ann, Anthony, Benjamin, Leigh and Mark; 1 brother, Erwin (Mary) Meser and 1 sister, Hilda (Elroy) Haupt, both of Manitowoc. His parents and 1 grandson preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Harold J. Meser will be held Monday, December 7, 1992, at 11:00 a.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church in Green Lake. The Reverend Rodney Dietsche will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake. Friends may call Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name for Peace Lutheran Church.
