Harold Smith

January 18, 1918 — July 30, 1955

Harold W. Smith, age 36, of Ripon, WI passed away on Saturday, July 30, 1955. He drowned while attempting to rescue two others in the Fox River.

Harold was born in the Town of Metomen, WI on January 18, 1918, the son of William and Bertha (Zinke) Smith. He was educated in the Green Lake Public Schools, and went on to serve our country in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army during WWII. He later became a Die Caster for the Speed Queen Corporation Plant in Omro. On February 14, 1942 he married Gladys Zimmerman in Green Lake, WI. Harold has resided for the past 10 years in Ripon and was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church.

Harold is survived by his wife, Gladys Smith of Ripon, WI; parents, William and Bertha Smith of Green Lake, WI; a brother, Roger Smith of Green Lake, WI; and maternal grandmother, Mary Nitzke of Brandon, WI.

Visitation for Harold will be held from 12:00 pm on Monday, August 1, 1955 until 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 2, 1955 at Butzin Funeral Home in Ripon, and again from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 2, 1955 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Ripon.

Funeral service for Harold will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 2, 1955 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, with Reverend R.D. Ziesemer officiating. Interment will follow at Dartford Cemetery, Green Lake, WI.
