Hazel E. Below, 89, passed into Eternal Life on Sunday, December 19, 2004, at her residence at the American House in Ripon.
She was born on October 15, 1915, in the Town of Metomen to Carl and Elizabeth (Toll) Koentopp. She was a graduate of Ripon High School. Hazel worked as a nurses aide at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, retiring in 1980 after working there over 20 years.
She was a life-long member of Our Saviours United Church of Christ in Ripon where she taught Sunday School. Hazel was a past member of the Royal Neighbors of America, the Rebekkahs and the Manchester and Pickett Senior Centers. She had been a volunteer in the gift shop at Ripon Memorial Hospital.
Hazel grew up on a farm in the Town of Metomen and lived in Ripon the rest of her life. The joys of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed baking, making crafts, sewing and playing cards.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Andrea (Darl) Mount of Murphy, TX and Peggy (Lynn) Moodie of Ripon. She is further survived by 6 grandchildren, Roger Mount of Fort Worth, TX, Houston (Chri) Mount, Wylie, TX, Melinda (Gary) McBride, Murphy, TX, Kristine Moodie, Ripon, Kevin (Susan) Moodie, Oshkosh and Kyle Moodie, Ripon. She also has 6 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren and a niece Carol (Mike) Frailing, Little Suamico. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Paulette Jean, a sister Caroline Chaffin, and a dear cousin Otto Thiel who was like a brother to her.
Funeral services for Hazel E. Below will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon with Rev. Mark R. West and Rev. Larry Moodie officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at the Fairwater Cemetery in Fairwater. A memorial has been established.
