Hazel Williams

Hazel Marian Williams, age 88, formerly Green Lake, died Saturday, December 7, 1996, at Michalene’s in Ripon.

Hazel Marian Hart was born February 2, 1909 in Hiles, WI. Irving and Alvina (Gehrke) Sherwood adopted Hazel on October 23, 1909. She lived in the Green Lake area all her life. She graduated from Green Lake High School and then received a B.A. Degree in 1932, from Ripon College. She did volunteer relief work in Milwaukee and West Allis prior to being a social worker in Berlin and Green Lake County. Until her marriage, Hazel was a field worker for the Honorable Judge Perry Niskern of Green Lake County.

Lester Williams and Hazel Sherwood were married August 20, 1936. Lester and Hazel were active in civic affairs in Green Lake, and Hazel was active in the Red Cross prior to the war. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary Willis—Chapel Post and past president of the Green Lake Business & Professional Women’s Club. She was also past librarian, past library president, former treasurer of the Dartford Cemetery Association having served 30 years, and past president of the Dartford Historical Society.

There are no immediate survivors. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester on February 16, 1977.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, December 10, 1996, at 1:00
P.M. at Dartford Cemetery, Green Lake with the Rev. Karen
Gygax—Rodriguez of The Green Lake Federated Church officiating. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, it was Hazel’s wish that monetary gifts be given in her name to the Green Lake B.P.W. to be used for their scholarship fund.
