Helen Emma (Klitzke) Berndt, age 101, of Ripon, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 16, 2005, at Fountain View Care Center, Ripon.
She was born on April 28, 1904, in Ripon, a daughter to Henry August and Emma (Martin) Klitzke. Helen was educated in Ripon, and graduated in 1926 from Ripon College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She was a public school teacher from 1926-1936. On June 9, 1936, she married Arthur A. Berndt, and they farmed East of Ripon until moving to Ripon in 1950. Arthur passed away February 16, 1990. At age 90, she decided to sell the house on Spaulding Avenue where she had lived for 45 years, and move to the American House. Helen was a longtime member of Our Saviours United Church of Christ in Ripon. She was a former member of the Womens Guild, Ripon Garden Club, Ripon Science Club, Ripon Historical Society, and A.A.U.W. Helen always enjoyed flowers, taking care of her flower beds and tending her vegetable gardens.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews by marriage, and sister-in-law, Emma Berndt. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; and 2 brothers, George (infant) and Walden Klitzke.
Funeral service for Helen Berndt will be Thursday, October 20, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel at Our Saviours United Church of Christ, Ripon. The Reverend Mark R. West will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon. Memorials may be given to Our Saviours UCC in her name.
