Helen L. Cerney, age 79, of Ripon, WI, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014, at home with family by her side.
Helen was born November 18, 1934, in Sheboygan, WI, the daughter of Karl and Frieda (Krimel) Braun. She was a graduate of Ripon High School, and went on to graduate from St. Marys Nursing School in Madison, WI. On September 8, 1956, Helen was united in marriage to Richard Cerney at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Ripon. She worked as a Registered Nurse with a Geriatric Specialty, and was also a ceramic and painting instructor; and Co-owner of Gooseberry Coffee/Gift Shop during her life. Helen and Richard were foster parents for multiple children, and actively fostered for many, many years. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, where she was heavily involved in all their activities.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Richard, Ripon, WI; sons: Richard II (Mary) Cerney, DePere, WI, Dennis (Gale) Cerney, Iron River, MI, Kenneth (Ellen) Cerney, Merrill, WI, Edward (Lisa) Cerney, Clayton, WI, Mike (Su) Cerney, Eldorado, WI, Jay (Cathy) Cerney, Horicon, WI, Eric (Marti) Cerney, Van Dyne, WI, Chris (Ann) Cerney, Ripon, WI, Ron Cerney, Oshkosh, WI, and Louis Cerney, Ripon, WI; sisters, Judy (Robert) Curry, Decatur, IL, and Bette (James) Schauer, Green Bay, WI; brother, Karl Jr (Joyce) Braun, Kingsland, GA; 20 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Frieda Braun; and brother-in-law, Willard Cerney.
Visitation for Helen Cerney will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014, from 4:00 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Drive, Ripon, WI 54971 and again on Friday, January 31, 2014, from 9:30 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 218 Blossom Street, Ripon, WI 54971.
Mass of Christian Burial for Helen Cerney will be held Friday, January 31, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Ripon. Reverend Robert A. Fictum will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Ripon. A memorial is being established.
