Helen Gay-Vancil, age 81, of Oshkosh, WI, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2011, at Oakwood Manor in Oshkosh.

Helen was born September 7, 1929, in Kenosha, WI, the daughter of Ignace and Mary (Lesjak) Schantek. She attended school in Kenosha and in 1954, married Howard “Hap” Gay also of Kenosha. They settled in Ripon, WI, with their two children. Howard passed away in 1983. Helen worked at Geer Murry Advertising in Oshkosh then worked ten years at the Ripon Cable Company until she retired. In 1989, she fell in love with and married Max Vancil of Ripon. Helen enjoyed playing bridge and golf, and she loved to travel and was able to visit many wonderful places during her life. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Church in Ripon, enjoyed volunteering at the Ripon Hospital gift shop and belonged to the Ripon Women’s Club.

Helen is survived by her children, Tom (Debra) Gay of Oshkosh, WI and Sally (Dan) Colacino of Viola, WI; granddaughter, Emily Colacino of Viola, WI; two brothers, Steve Schantek of Kenosha and Fred (Jane) Schantek of Englewood, FL and many nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Howard Gay and Max Vancil and one brother Rudy Schantek.

Visitation for Helen Gay-Vancil will be held on Monday, August 29, 2011, from 4 – 6:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr. Ripon, WI 54971.

Prayer Service for Helen Gay-Vancil will be held on Monday, August 29, 2011, at 6:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Reverend Robert A. Fictum will officiate. Inurnment will take place at St. James Cemetery in Kenosha, WI. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Southeast WI 620 South 76th St. Suite 160 Milwaukee, WI 53214 or Green Lake Area Animal Shelter, N6217 Busse Dr.
