Helmuth Berndt, Sr.

August 18, 1899 — September 21, 1988

Helmuth Herman Berndt, Sr., 89 years old, of Route 2, Ripon, died Wednesday, September 21, 1988, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Barbara Berndt where he had resided the past four years.

He was born August 18, 1899, on a farm north of Rosendale, the son of Herman and Louisa Helinski Berndt. He was confirmed in the “Scott Street Church” in Ripon in 1914.

Helmuth married Edith Daehn on June 14, 1922. She preceded him in death on July 8, 1980.

He was a member of Our Saviours United Church of Christ in Ripon and was a member of several of the churches organizations.

Helmuth was a farmer all his life, his latter years at rural Brandon.

He is survived by two sons: Roy of Rural Route, Ripon and Helmuth, Jr. of Berlin; four daughters: Mrs. Marvin (Mabel) Graff of Rural Route, Markesan, Mrs Durwood (Eunice) Grams of Rural Route Markesan, Mrs. Vernon (Helen) Podoll of Berlin and Mrs. Almond (Fern) Meyer of Wild Rose; daughter-in-law: Mrs. Erich (Eula) Berndt of Illinois. He was preceded in death by his son, Erich in 1987, two sisters and a brother. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren, also nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 24, at 10:00 am at Our Saviours United Church of Christ, Ripon with the Rev. Harley Tretow officiating. Interment will be in the Fairwater Cemetery, Fairwater. Friends may call from 4 until 8:30 pm on Friday at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon.

A Memorial has been established for Hospice.
