Helmuth Kerl

Helmuth “Hank” Ludwig Kerl, 90, of 615 W Oshkosh St., Ripon, passed away Thursday evening, February 10, 2005, at Fountain View Care Center in Ripon after a brief stay.

He was born in the Town of Seneca, Green Lake Co., on June 10, 1914. He attended Berlin Schools. Hank served in the U.S. Army 9th Div. in Africa, Sicily and the European Theater from 1940-1945. After the war he worked at Berlin Chapman for 6 years, and then at Speed Queen plants in Omro and Ripon for 25 years, retiring in 1977. On May 25, 1946, he married Joan Polly in Berlin, and she passed away March 8, 1990. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ripon. Hank was a former member of Local #1327 Steel Workers and served as Vice-President, Legislative Chairman and Chief Steward, member and Vice-President of Fond du Lac County Labor Council, and the Berlin V.F.W. Post #2925.

Survivors include his son, Richard (Kathy) Kerl of Racine; Lorraine (Dr. James)
Paulissen of West Chicago, IL and Patricia Hess of Ripon; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, John (Louise) Eagen of Genesee, ID, Oliver Eagen and Donald (Mary Ann) Eagen, both of Berlin; and three sisters, Margaret Gregor, Hazel (Ray) Gregor and Alice Janes, all of Berlin. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Marie Marcin, and two great-grandchildren and two brothers in law.

Mass of Christian Burial for Helmuth “Hank” Kerl will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ripon, on Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., The Rev. Robert A. Fictum officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Town of Ripon, with full Military Honors. Memorials in his name may be given to VFW Post 2925, 420 N Wisconsin St., Berlin WI, 54923.
