Henrietta Butzin

Henrietta Lee Butzin, age 88, formerly most recently from Tallahassee, Florida, died on June 8, 2006, after a long illness.

Henrietta was born October 15, 1917, in Princeton, Illinois. She graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1935 and Ripon College in 1939. She married Karl E. Butzin in 1939.

She had an active professional and volunteer career that included a daily radio program initially on WBEV in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and then on WCWC, the local radio station in Ripon, from 1952 to 1961. She acted as organist and receptionist at the family business, the Butzin and later the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home. She was active in “town and gown” drama productions at Ripon College and presented dramatic programs, speeches and book reviews for many organizations in and around Ripon. She was elected to the Ripon School Board in 1951 and served as its clerk from 1955 to 1960. She also served on the boards of the South Woods Park Association, the Ripon Community Chest, the local chapter of the American Association of University Women, the Ripon Educational Club and the Ripon Woman’s Club, where she was the charter president. She was an active member of the Ripon Congregational Church (United Church of Christ).

She is survived by her two sons, Lee Frederick Butzin of Oak Island, NC, and Richmond, VA, and Peter Alfred Butzin of Tallahassee, FL; three granddaughters, Wendy Lee Popp, Richmond, VA, Charlotte Mills Beal, Los Angeles, CA, and Jessica Annelle O’Reilly, Tarrytown, NY; and two great grandchildren, Weston and Samuel Popp. Her husband, Karl E. Butzin, who died April 21, 1996, after 56 years of marriage, preceded her in death.

A memorial service for Henrietta Lee Butzin is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 15th at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, with Reverend Jack Kraaz officiating. A reception will follow. Inurnment will be at Hillside Cemetery in the City of Ripon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to either Ripon College, P. O. Box 248 - Ripon, WI 54971, or to the First Congregational Church, 220 Ransom Street • Ripon, WI 54971.
