Howard Huibregtse

Howard E. Huibregtse, 80, of 515 Watson St., Ripon, died September 26, 1989, at Ripon Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 9, 1909, in Oostburg, WI, to S. Edward and Jennie Grotenhuis Huibregtse. On March 6, 1947, he married Esther Helgeson.

Mr. Huibregtse graduated from Ripon High School and attended Ripon College. He was a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army for 30 years. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. In addition, he participated in the Korean Conflict and served Tours of Duty in Japan, Germany, Fort Benning, GA, Lincoln, NE and San Antonio, TX. Among his many achievements and medals, Sergeant Huibregtse earned the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, the Philippine Legion of Honor Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Silver Star Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Brown-Parfitt Post #43 and of the First Congregational Church in Ripon.

Survivors include his wife; 1 son, Thomas Edward Huibregtse of Weymouth, MA; 2 daughters, Jane Anne Cotter of Ripon and Mary Jo Huibregtse of Springfield, IL; 3 grandchildren, Margaret Elizabeth Heffernan of Madison, Thomas Patrick Heffernan of Manchester, NH, Jason Roy Huibregtse of Weymouth, MA; 2 sisters, Anne Schneider and Amy Gneiser, both of Ripon. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Howard, 1 brother and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon. The Reverend Lawrence Janssen will officiate. Interment will be in the Garden of the Cross Cemetery, Ripon.

Friends may call Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home where a Legion Service will be held at 7:45 p.m.
