Hugh Stellmacher

Hugh Ray August Stellmacher, age 71, of Ripon, WI, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, July 25, 2001, at Ripon Medical Center.

Hugh was born November 29, 1929, in Ripon, the son of Elmer H. and Lydia (Klingbeil) Stellmacher. He graduated from Ripon High School and later married Genevieve Ruth Westover in June of 1950. High was a lifelong farmer as well as having worked at Green Giant, WI Axle, Speed Queen, and Culligan Soft Water. He was former owner of the Buzz Inn Restaurant in Ripon and Berlin Soft Water which he recently sold to his grandson, Brock and son, Lee and currently was owner of South Side Laundry in Berlin.

Hugh was a member of Green Lake County Deputy Sheriff’s, Charter member of Ducks Unlimited, member of Wild Wings, Golden Gloves Boxing Club, National Rifle Association and monthly card club. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon where he ushered for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Gen Stellmacher; sons and daughters, Lee (Linda) Stellmacher of Ripon, Laurie (Tom) Booker of Thomasvillle, AL, Kari (Richard) Bond of Omro, Patti (Paul) Quinn of Berlin, Jon Stellmacher of Berlin, Jill (Scott) Henning of Sartell, MN and Jason Stellmacher and fiancé Meighan of Boulder, CO. He is further survived by grandchildren, Jed Stellmacher, Cory (Julie) Stellmacher, Brock (Heather) Stellmacher, and Wyatt Stellmacher, all of Ripon, Jennifer (Rodney) McDougal of FL and Ben Booker and Fiancé Melani of AL, Andrea, Breana, and Matthew Bond of Omro and special friend, Kim Gloyd of Ripon, Renee Quinn and special friend, Dan Tibbits of Oshkosh, Ryan and Russell Quinn of Berlin, Joshua Stellmacher of Berlin, Jessica (Chris) Himes of CO and Laura, Michael and Sarah Henning of MN; three great-grandchildren, Mitchel, Jacob and Alexis Stellmacher. He is further survived by his siblings, brother, Stuart (Liz) Stellmacher of CA and three sisters, Adeline Burdick of Ripon, Elaine (Milon) Moderow of Markesan and Irene Mercier of Milwaukee, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one infant son, Thomas Michael Stellmacher, parents, and five brothers-in-laws, Gene Jones, Ed Westover, Wayland Ristau, Bill Mercier and Ted Burdick.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 28, 2001, at 11 am at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon with David Busker officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of service Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Hugh Ray dearly loved his family and was a man that loved the outdoors, loved playing cards and taking care of the land. He was a collector of many things including guns, knives, cars and antique items—a man who found worth in anything and loved everyone! He will be dearly missed.
