Irene Minnie Lenz, of 428 Hamburg St, Ripon, was taken to the Lords heavenly home on Sunday, January 22, 2006 at Fountain View Care Center, after a journey of 90 years, 6 months and 22 days.
She was born June 29, 1915, in Montello, WI, the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Otto) Luther. She attended St. Johns Lutheran School in Princeton, WI. On November 4, 1939, she was united in marriage to Lester Chet Lenz in Ripon. Before being married, Irene had worked as a housekeeper for Ben Marcus in Ripon. The first 12 years after being married, while being a housewife and mother, she also helped with the farm chores while she and Chet worked on the farms of Dr. Senn and Elmer Henning. After moving into Ripon she worked at seasonal jobs for Umbriets Feed Service and Green Giant Co. Then she worked at Ripon Community Printers as an inserter for 21 years retiring at the age of 83. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She loved to have her grandchildren come over with their friends so she could feed them some of her cookies and desserts. She was a member of Our Saviours United Church of Christ in Ripon.
Survivors include her son, Lyle Lenz of Ripon; 3 grandchildren, Troy (Gail) Lenz of Ripon, Tracie (Mark) Kapler of Sioux Falls, SD and Terri Lenz (friend Craig Cutts) of Ripon. Also 4 great-grandchildren, Michael & Nicholas Lenz, Kasey & Kylie Kapler. A daughter-in-law, Beverly Lenz of Ripon; sisters-in-law, Bev Luther & Olga Tauschmann; plus many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester Chet Lenz on July 17, 1983; a son, DuWayne Duke Lenz on February 22, 1997; 1 sister, Sadie Pischke; and 3 brothers, Ernie Dagner, Victor Luther and Harvey Luther; 3 brothers-in-law; 3 sisters-in-law; and 2 nieces.
Funeral service for Irene M. Lenz will be held on Friday, January 27, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviours United Church of Christ with the Rev. Mark R. West officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home and again on Friday at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ripon. A memorial has been established.
